(Park Hills, MO) The ninth seeded Steelville Cardinals defeated the eight seed Jefferson Blue Jays 65-46 in game 2 of the boys’ first round of the 68th annual Bob Secrest Jr. Central Christmas Tournament. The Cardinals shot well from the field finishing at 59% and drained 8 of 13 from the free throw line.
The score does not reflect how close the majority of the game was with the two teams ending the first half separated by just four points. Steelville came out hot in the third quarter and went on a lengthy run, eventually outscoring the Blue Jays 20-7 by the end of the quarter. They continued this run in the fourth quarter outscoring the Cardinals 18-8 and 38-15 overall in the second half.
Owen McPeters scored 22 and shot 70% from the field, leading the Cardinals. Gage Harris also scored 11 and collected 5 rebounds before fouling out in the fourth. Additionally, Jacob Midyett put up 10 and grabbed 6 rebounds for Steelville. Nate Breeze scored 23 of the Blue Jays’ 46 points.
Steelville will face off against the Central Rebels on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 4pm and Jefferson will play Arcadia Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 1pm.
