(St. Louis, MO) The St. Louis Cardinals are unforunately back below .500, they fall to San Diego 7-4 on Monday night.
Kyle Gibson got the start for St. Louis, but struggled to get by San Diego bats. Gibson went 4.1 innings, giving up 7 earned runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. The Padres were all over the right hander from the jump, starting with a 2-run home run for Manny Machado in the top of the 1st, a 2-RBI single for Jackson Merrill in the third, then a 3-run top of the 5th, which included more RBIs for both Machado and Merrill.
Gibson says allowing those 4 walks early on led to his downfall.
Offensively, the Cardinals were able to keep up for a time, but despite picking up RBI base hits from Alec Burleson in the both the 7th and 9th innings, they were unable to make up the full deficit.
St. Louis is now back below .500 at 65-66. They'll return to the field tonight for Game 2 of the 4 game series. First pitch is at 6:45, pregame at 5:50. You can listen in on B104.3.
