Farmington Chamber Luncheon Focuses on Homelessness in the Parkland

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Around 150 people attended a panel discussion on homelessness at the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon on Thursday.

The discussion shed light on the challenges faced by the homeless population and misconceptions surrounding the issue. Chamber Executive Director Candy Hente addressed the audience, emphasizing that homelessness is a nationwide issue.

One key takeaway from the discussion was that many panhandlers in the area are not actually homeless and have jobs. Hente also noted that a common question people ask is why homeless individuals don’t simply find employment.

She pointed out another major challenge, what individuals experiencing homelessness would do with their belongings while at work. Hente said this remains a growing concern that will continue to be addressed by local authorities, shelters, and organizations like the East Missouri Action Agency.
