Proposition P Raises Pay for Deputies

(Farmington, MO) A new salary schedule is in place for St. Francois County Sheriff's Department Deputies after Tuesday's St. Francois County Commission meeting. The increase came about after voters approved the county's collection of the internet use tax through Proposition P in the August elections. St. Francois County Sheriff, Dan Bullock, says they went ahead with the raise now, rather than wait for the tax to be collected,  because they are quickly losing deputies to better paying jobs elsewhere.

In other business at Tuesday's St. Francois County Commission meeting the pay for Grand Jury members was raised after a new rate of $20 per day and 18 cents a mile was approved. Commissioners also heard from several concerned citizens who say the FLOCK camera surveillance system, county officials want to use, could easily be abused by government officials. FLOCK is an artificial intelligence based, learning assisted, advanced license plate reader and commissioners tabled their approval of the cameras for the county, until a public discussion can be held on the matter.
