The August Primary Elections

(St. Francois County, MO) St. Francois County voters will decide the fate of several contested county races in the August primary elections. Those races include the contest between the Associate Circuit Judge of the 24th Circuit, Patrick L. King, and challenger Julie McCarver, the county's Circuit Clerk position with candidates Kristina Bone and Elaine Easter, the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney position being sought again by incumbent Melissa Gilliam, who's going up against Blake Dudley, and the race for St. Francois Township Committeeman. The three candidates for that seat are Ben Bradley, Chuck Dodson, and Kyle Smith. The Eighth Congressional district features a race between Congressman Jason Smith and Jacob Turner. There are 21 candidates vying for the Missouri US Senate seat held by Roy Blunt. On the Democratic primary ticket for St. Francois County there are 11 candidates running for Blunt's chair in the Senate. There is one measure on the ballot for voters. It's the Proposition P Internet use tax. St. Francois County officials would earmark most of the tax for the Sheriff's department to hire additional deputies for better protection of citizens. It would also increase deputy retention efforts by including a raise in salaries. The state is already collecting the tax. St. Francois County will not receive any of those funds unless voters approve the measure allowing the money to come to the county.
